Economic Impact Assessment studies measure how an event impacts the local economy. It measures the changes in economic activity due to a specific event; new dollars to the region.
Economic impact is driven by 3 factors:
- The spending of out-of-town visitors (participants and spectators) while they attend the event (s).
- The expenditures of the event organizers in producing the event (s)
- Capital construction costs that are directly attributed to hosting the event (s)
An Economic Impact Assessment calculates the amount of new money being spent in the host community as a direct result of hosting the event and the impact this new money has on regional, provincial and national economies.
For example, in 2022 Greater Trail hosted U-13 Boys Tier 3 Hockey Provincials.
The combined total of visitor, capital, and operational spending as a result of hosting the U-13 Hockey Provincial Championships is expected to total $869,397.
These expenditures will support a total of $1,046,402 of economic activity in the province, of which $902,963 is expected to occur in Trail and surrounding area.
